October in the Surrey Hills rarely needs much improving, but we thought a scattering of easels might make it even better!
Take part in our ‘plein air’ painting challenge and spend the day at one of Surrey’s most unusual and beautiful corners. There are the blue-green waters of Silent Pool, Sherbourne Pond just below, Albury Vineyard behind us, the village across the valley and the Surrey Hills turning every possible shade of autumn. Frankly, the hardest part may be deciding which way to point your easel.
And, since this is October, the location comes with its own ghost. Silent Pool is said to be one of Britain’s most haunted stretches of water, thanks to the old legend of King John and the woodcutter’s daughter. We cannot promise an appearance, but if she finds her way into your painting, we certainly won’t mark you down.
Registration begins at 11am with tea and a samosa, sponsored by Mandira’s Kitchen. Then choose your spot, unpack your paints and make the landscape your own.
Bring your easel, paints and everything you need to work outdoors. Brushes down at 3pm.
Come for the autumn colours, paint an extraordinary corner of Surrey and help a brilliant local charity while you’re at it.
Public viewing and People’s Choice vote: 3pm to 4pm
There will be judged prizes, with full details to be announced shortly.
Mandira’s Kitchen is also sponsoring the People’s Choice Prize, an Indian Afternoon Tea for Two in their beautiful barn at Silent Pool.

From 3pm to 4pm, we are opening the exhibition to the public. Come and see what our artists have created and vote for the painting you would most like to take home.
No artistic qualifications required. A good eye and a strong opinion will do very nicely.
