Cycling surgeon cuts a dash for GUTS
Andrea Scala, a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, will be stepping up to the RideLondon-Surrey challenge in support of Guildford bowel cancer charity GUTS. The event takes place on August 30th and is a 100-mile cycle race from the QE2 Park in London following a route out through Surrey, including Guildford and the Surrey Hills.
Mr Scala is a keen cyclist and took part in the 2016 event so is hoping to better his time of six hours. He said: “Last year’s race was interrupted by a couple of hold-ups due to collisions so I’m hoping to improve on my 2016 time. GUTS is currently raising money to update some of the equipment in the endoscopy unity at the RSCH and I am really pleased to be able to support this appeal.”
Also raising money for GUTS will be Andrea’s friend Paolo Ditale, manager at Olivo restaurant in Quarry Street. Between them, they have already raised in excess of £500. Anyone who would like to support Andrea or Paolo can do so online at BT Mydonate
