“I enjoy baking so every year I help out GUTS by supplying them with cakes for an annual open garden teashop. I bake over a period of two to three weeks and freeze them to ensure they have lots of fresh cakes for the day. My top tip is write a list – or even several lists! Then you know exactly what ingredients you’re going to need and what recipes you will be using.”

“My other big fundraiser for GUTS is selling second-hand and vintage bric-a-brac. I have been doing this for years now and because it’s so long established people bring me great pieces, like china, glass, silver and plate, curtains, jewellery – which is very popular – and lots of things one might find in your draws or hidden away and forgotten. I  work for auction houses and often unsold items get donated for charity. That comes to GUTS too. Some years I manage to rent an empty shop for a couple of weeks and call on a load of my girlfriends to come and help run it. It’s hard work but a lot of fun! We’ve made in the region of £10,000 doing that for a couple of weeks. Other times we have table top sales in the Royal Surrey or at local fetes and markets. Some of good stuff we sell on the GUTS website or in auctions.

“Over the years we have probably raised at least £50,000 – that’s a lot of knick-knacks isn’t it!”

Please get in touch if you items to donate for Sarah’s stall or if you have an idea for your own fundraising stall.
